Privacy notice

How Fishkeeping at Home handles website requests and enquiries.

Fishkeeping at Home operates this website. For questions about personal information or to make a privacy request, contact [email protected].

The website has no advertising pixels.

Contact form enquiries

Our contact form collects your name, email address, enquiry type, message and an optional page address. We save your enquiry in a Cloudflare database before sending an email notification to our inbox. This helps us retain your message if notification delivery is delayed. Your email address is used as the notification's reply address so we can answer you.

Cloudflare Turnstile checks submissions for spam. It processes browser and request information for that purpose; see the Turnstile privacy information. We also use a short-lived, hashed connection identifier to limit repeated submissions. We do not store the raw connection IP address in the enquiry database. These rate-limit records are cleared by scheduled cleanup after a day.

Cloudflare provides form storage, spam protection and notification delivery. Google provides the inbox used to handle enquiries; see Google's privacy policy. We use enquiry information only to deal with your message and as described below.

Website usage and performance

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand which pages are visited, where visits come from and how well the website loads. It provides summaries of website usage and performance so we can improve the site.

Cloudflare's analytics does not use cookies or local storage to collect usage metrics, and does not fingerprint individual visitors. The analytics script sends usage and performance measurements to Cloudflare. Read Cloudflare's explanation of Web Analytics and its data collection documentation for more information.

Hosting and external requests

Cloudflare hosts the website and processes requests to deliver and protect it. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for its handling of service data.

Pages with Amazon product blocks request image information from this site's image endpoint, then load authorised images from Amazon's media service. Loading an external image sends ordinary request information, including your IP address, to that service.

Leaving the website

Following a retailer link takes you to a service with its own privacy practices. Amazon links can include our public affiliate tracking identifier. See the affiliate disclosure and cookie information for more context.

If you email us

An email can contain your address, name and anything you choose to include. We use that information to read and answer your enquiry, investigate a correction or handle a privacy request. Please send only what is needed and avoid including sensitive personal information about yourself or other people.

Why we use information and how long we keep it

We rely on our legitimate interests in delivering a secure website, understanding site usage and improving performance, answering reader enquiries and investigating corrections. Where handling a privacy request is required by data-protection law, we rely on that legal obligation. Providing information by email is voluntary, but we may be unable to answer an enquiry without enough detail. We do not use reader enquiries for marketing or automated decisions about people.

Website requests are handled by our hosting provider and enquiries by our email-service provider. We keep enquiry information only while it is needed to answer the question, investigate the issue, maintain a necessary correction record or meet a legal requirement. We assess that need when an enquiry is resolved; information no longer needed should be deleted. Hosting and email providers may retain operational logs and backups under their own service arrangements.

Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, restrict its use or object to processing. Contact the email address above to make a request. You can also raise a concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
